Usenet Network

Usenet is a decentralized network, it works by each Usenet server sharing its information with all the other servers on the network. This propagation across servers makes Usenet an ideal place for storing information and data of all types. If a server is damaged (Message-IDs missing), the article can still exists on every other server in the network.

Top 10 best Usenet services of 2017

USENET PROVIDERS
USENET REVIEWS

TIER-1 Provider

Backbone: UNS Holdings

Newshosting is the best Usenet Service Provider since it is the only one that offers Usenet and a Newsreader of this high quality.

Access to Usenet: Unlimited Newsgroups. Best retention on the market ( days), 30 SSL connections, 2 servers in Europe (Holland and Germany) and 1 in the USA. The Usenet servers are run on their in-house network because Newshosting is a Tier-1 provider. No part of Newshosting Usenet service is contracted or outsourced.

A free Newsreader, perfectly adapted to download binary files: NZB, search engine, updated Newsgroups with headers, automatic search.

Why is Newshosting the best Newsgroup service provider in 2017?

Newshosting is the best Usenet service provider 2017 because it suits all Usenet users whatever their download methods. Newshosting is everything a Usenet customer could ask for, be they a complete novice (New to Usenet and looking for recommendations) or veteran user. Usenet is the only network with such diverse ways of referencing and downloading. Whatever you need, Newshosting will work for you!

  1. Downloading files from Usenet has never been easier with NewsHosting Newsreader. I'm using Newshosting 2.6.3 to download from Usenet indexing sites like NZBGeek - NZBPlanet. These Usenet indexers provide a new generation of obfuscated files.

Lately uploaders spread the parts across numerous groups with random filenames (or not). Completion rates on these releases (Scrambled post/file names) are excellent whatever the date of post (old binaries). You can also grab new stuff before DCMA becomes an issue

  2. These scrambled Usenet filenames can be revealed by running the PARs through quickpar to repair the filenames in the posts to reveal the actual real unscrambled filename. Luckily Newshosting Newsreader renames all files perfectly. NH Newsreader's big features include file name repair of obfuscated file names using the par files (done in seconds) and automatic extraction.

If you combine Newshosting with obfuscated files, you are all set. I haven't had huge issues with completion. It’s the easiest and most efficient way to download about anything.

  3. There are no limits on speed or data with Newshosting. The unlimited package really is unlimited. No hidden barriers, NO INVISIBLE CAPS.

  4. You can automate your film downloads with Couchpotato. The 3 servers from Newshosting will let you use the maximum of your bandwidth.

  5. You can download from the referencing done by the Spotnet protocol. Spotnet is excellent, their referencing functions through the Usenet network and its Text newsgroups. With Spotnet Usenet is enough all by itself without the internet! I recommend using Spotnet 2.0 newsreader

  6. No backup provider? Newshosting provides a solution if you have incomplete files. How?

NewsHosting Browser V 2.6.3 implements a new service called "Backup NNTP". The general idea is that you can add a block account from Tweaknews to help you get downloads that Newshosting doesn't have for various reasons. Tweaknews will work well to complete some files. Essentially Newshosting gives you a main server and capacity to add Tweaknews as a backup server on their Newsreader.

You can also get block accounts from other backbones. The benefit to having multiple providers is access to multiple backends, it allows to find files that may have been deleted from the other backend already. Usually the backup account is a block. What is the best block account that goes with my Newshosting account?

    1. UsenetExpress backbone: 500 GB / $20

      Usenet.farm backbone: 500 GB / 15 €

      EasyUsenet (XSNews backbone): 100 GB / 14,95 €

=> These block accounts are the best that exist: the cheapest and the most likely to complete your unlimited package from Newshosting

Best Usenet Provider 2017

Eweka

TIER-1 Provider

Backbone: Eweka

Eweka is the best Dutch Newsgroup provider – Best European Usenet

Eweka is based in Holland. If you need a Usenet servers based in Holland then Eweka will be perfect for you!

They are our favourite Dutch Usenet Service Provider thanks to their 4000 days retention (triple that of other Dutch or German Usenet Service Providers). Eweka is also under the NTD-behavioural code and not the DMCA. (The main difference is in executing the demand which takes longer and is less automatic in Europe).

Eweka packages:

  1. Unlimited Usenet at 300 mbit for €7.50/month. It is the best possible price for Usenet access at this speed.

  2. It’s even possible to share your account with friends. Eweka allows a shared connection on a 50 Mbit at €7.50/month. Split the cost of a Usenet package between 2 or 3 people for a steal!

If you combine Eweka with the Spotnet protocol (I recommend using Eweka with Spotnet 2.0 newsreader), you are all set. It’s the easiest and most efficient way to download about anything.

Spotnet, in a nutshell: Spotnet is a category-based Usenet indexing service. Persons called 'spotters' can spot a post on Usenet. spots are manually created by humans which categorize them and provide an image and description for the spot. This makes Spotweb slightly slower for new content but should most likely raise the bar on quality - depending on the Spotters.

Best spotnet usenet newsreader: Spotnet 2.0

Best spotweb-based indexer: NZBServer

Best European Usenet 2017 (No DMCA)

TIER-1 Provider

Backbone: UNS Holdings

UsenetServer has unlimited access with SSL included at $.95.40/year with days of binary retention. UsenetServer is a good quality server. It is the best annual price for an excellent Newsgroup.

UsenetServer has two interesting options:

  1. Global Search 2.0 is an NZB search engine. Practical since the NZB search engines don't search for days retention anymore! The internal search engine from UsenetServer lets you search for days retention. And to create as many NZB as you need. And NZB created by Global Search 2.0 guarantees that the files are present on UsenetServer.
  2. A VPN is included for free with the annual package. This VPN is NO LOGs, includes 17 countries and connection programme with OpenVPN. With the VPN from UsenetServer you can download Torrents, share p2p (from Dutch and Swedish servers), Emule, Direct Downloading (Cyberlockers)

UsenetServer lets you download everything you need for one simple rate of $95.40/year.

It is still possible to only have one Newsgroup service provider for downloading. You don't need to have lots of Usenet Service providers from different backbones to download on Usenet. You just need to subscribe to a lot of Newznab indexers and to automate your downloads (Couhpotato). I have tested lots of configurations and it is still possible to have one Usenet Service Provider like UsenetServer for all my downloads, without any problems.

USENET - 90% of the time this method works no problem. My files were completed.

VPN + TORRENTS - In some cases the file can't be found on the Usenet network. So I search for it on torrents. Usenet is better than torrents but the latter can be used if necessary. On the condition that you download torrents with the VPN from UsenetServer and with the VUZE client for its IP Bind. This VPN is useful in case of absent or incomplete files on Usenet. The major disadvantage of torrents is the inherent insecurity of the technology: Download Torrents only via VPN

I recommend UsenetServer for anyone that doesn't want to worry about completion.... In fact I love UsenetServer as I don't accumulate News Service providers from different backbones for completion or to find the News Service Provider that is not subject to different jurisdictions (DMCA or NTD).

For $95.40/year I get EVERYTHING: my Usenet access with is useful in 90% of cases. And UsenetServer VPN does the rest. Usenet is still a major, high-performance network. UsenetServer proves it!

A comprehensive Usenet solution

TIER-1 Provider

Backbone: Tweaknews

Tweaknews is a complete Usenet option:

A Dutch provider: EU Based servers are not subject to US DMCA laws. Its location is important: it answers to Dutch jurisdiction, not American. Tweaknews protected the privacy and rights of their subscribers

Tweaknews is a Tier-1 provider. They own their network (T1 USP) and therefore their own files.

Good retention: 2500 days (most usenet Service providers in Europe offer a maximum of 1200 days retention) lets Tweaknews users search for old indexed files

Speed: We tested Tweaknews using a Fiber connection (Hyperoptic). We were really impressed by the speeds obtained with 30 connections. I was maxing out at 70 MB/s!. 50 GB should be downloaded in no more than 10 minutes. Usenet utilizes your maximum available bandwidth! One of the major benefits of Usenet is speed.

Free Newsreader - UsenetWire provides you with a quick and easy way to find the content you’re looking for.

VPN included for free - Tweaknews VPN lets you search for any missing files on other networks in total security. Tweaknews VPN allows Torrents. Tweaknews VPN is a popular choice for torrent downloaders looking to keep their torrent traffic anonymous. Torrent is a good file sharing protocol but a VPN is absolutely necessary for torrenting.

Thanks to our partnership, NGProvider can offer the exclusive deal of unlimited access (2500 days retention - 40 connections) plus Newsreader plus VPN for just 9,99 € a month or 89,99 € a year.

NGProvider - Tweaknews - Special pricing

Most complete European Usenet provider: Usenet + Newsreader + VPN

EasyNews

TIER-1 Provider

Backbone: UNS Holdings

Easynews is the most under-estimated Usenet server. Its technical capabilities and its offers are high quality. As a result: their most complete package is more expensive than the average but you get your money's worth. Easynews is for people that want to make the most of Usenet !

1- The most important tool from Easynews is that they offer three ways to access newsgroups:

Webinterface Web interface (includes an NZB search engine, a zip manager and an image viewer) that lets you access the Usenet network from your browser using the HTTP protocol. The web interface is totally ergonomic and easy to use. The search engine on this web interface is the best of all the NZB search engines

Easynews also has unlimited access to newsgroups in NNTP mode (via newsreader). This is the classic way, with an address and newsreader.

Easynews is also available for tablets and smartphones. Using a web interface on the tablet is amazing. There are also official Android apps. Easynews is the only news service provider that has compatible apps for viewing images, downloading, searching.

2- We also recommend Easynews as the Usenet Service Provider that should be installed on all your devices: Kodi, NAS synology, Raspberry pi, Couchpotato. Whenever you need to install an automatic or complex configuration I turn to Easynews (their tech support always helps in case of problems). For installing Usenet on Kodi I used Easynews since they have an add-on available that works wonders.

3- Easynews VPN is offered for free with their many package: BIG GIG PLAN at $29.94/month.

The best all-round Usenet server: web interface – NNTP – apps - VPN

ExtremeUsenet

Usenet Reseller

Backbone: Base-IP

ExtremeUsenet is a Dutch Usenet provider, reseller from the BaseIP backbone. BaseIP resells its network infrastructure (Usenet servers – peering – feed) to different Usenet providers. ExtremeUsenet is the best Usenet access from this backbone.

ExtremeUsenet is one of the cheaper Dutch News Service Providers thanks to their fair rates based on your connection speed or your downloading hours.

ExtremeUsenet has a whole range of Usenet packages. This diversity is their main advantage:

  1. Classic Usenet rate where the price is calculated according to the speed - so a 4 mbit package at €4/month. And the annual rate is even cheaper: €38.40!

  2. Discount rates even cheaper than that: 12mbit at €2.50/month. The only condition is to use predefined hours. The time slots offered are not just a few hours per day either!

  3. All Usenet packages can be shared. ALL of them, even the €2.50 rate. Sharing is limited to the number of connections. So if the packages allows 4connections then 4 different IPs can connect.

The advantage of ExtremeUsenet is the range of packages. ExtremeUsenet is good for lots of different kinds of Usenet users:

  1. If you want just Usenet access, then the rates are calculated according to your connection speed. During my tests all the speeds were respected.

  2. If you want cheap Newsgroup access without any frills: no newsreader included. No free VPN. And all packages can be shared, reducing the costs.

Its three flaws are: only 1200 days retention, no Paypal and no VPN (p2p traffic)

Conclusion: we recommend ExtremeUsenet if you need a Dutch Newsgroup Service provider to access Usenet for a low price. For example ExtremeUsenet has an original formula (Voordeel Pakketten) that gives you access at certain times (midnight to midday or 2h00 til 14h00 or 4h00 to 16h00) with an amazing discount: 12 mbit for only €2.50

Reputable EU newsgroup provider

UsenetBucket

Usenet Reseller

Backbone: Base-IP

UsenetBucket is a Usenet reseller from the backbone BaseIP, which supplies a lot of Usenet resellers.

UsenetBucket is one of the best BaseIP resellers for different reasons:

  1. First, they offer the best prices of all BaseIP resellers!!! If you want a Dutch Usenet provider (UsenetBucket is based in Holland and uses servers from a Dutch reseller) to complete missing files or to reduce costs then get the cheapest!. And you'll get the same technical characteristics as the other BaseIP resellers.
And the prices are based on our download speed. The faster it is the more you pay. This goes from €2.95 for the basic Bucket rate (10Mbit/s) to €12.95 for the ultimate Bucket rate at 400 MBit/s.

  2. UsenetBucket is one of the new Usenet providers that can guarantee confidentiality to its members. Usenetbucket has a series of tools to keep you anonymous:
      1. You can use different anonymous payment methods like Bitcoin
      2. No personal info needed. Just an email address – you can enter a temporary one.
      3. No LOGS are kept, no monitoring of your activities. With UsenetBucket you are sure of Usenet network neutrality.
      4. Usenetbucket is based in Holland, a country that respects internet users' rights.

  3. If you are still deliberating, UsenetBucket has a free trial offer of 5GB so you can check and get to know the service. Afterward you need to click on the Extra Bucket button in the Subscriptions tab to sign up to a paid package (Basic – Comfort – Ultimate). On the user space you will find the Promotions tab to find any discount codes (with ways to win them).
Great pricing, good retention and the use of the BaseIP backbone makes UsenetBucket a top high quality choice for Usenet.

Best Cheap Usenet Provider

USENETEXPRESS

Hybrid Usenet access

Tier-1 provider (own local retention) and resells from their partner backup feeds.

UsenetExpress, like many resellers, contractually can't reveal who their retention beyond local is provided by but it's all but certain it's XSNews and UNS Holdings.

UsenetExpress is a hybrid Usenet servers based in the USA. The backbone that belongs to UsenetExpress with 90 days retention is based in North America. The two resellers that offer the rest of the retention – to make up 1100 days – are based in Europe and the USA, one in each. The source of the retention is not known as the articles were being served from archival/cache servers. UsenetExpress, like many resellers, contractually can't reveal who their retention beyond local is provided by but it's all but certain it's XSNews and UNS Holdings.

A system that lets you access several networks (backbones) is very useful for both the Newsgroup providers and the users:

  1. For the Newsgroup provider: this allows them to offer 1100 days retention at a lower price. In the Hybrid system, the Usenet server is a Tier-1 provider only for the first 90 days retention. The rest is rented from one or two other exterior Usenet providers. Normally 75% of downloads do come from the provider's own retention.

  2. For the user: they can access three different backbones with needing to sign up for three different Usenet providers! Completion is the most important part of Usenet.
“Usenet completion” or “completion rate”

The hybrid system set up by some Usenet service providers is very popular at the moment. The system was created to ensure that your articles and completion rates are up to scratch. Hybrid Usenet Providers will automatically pull from different backbones.

Usenet is a totally decentralised network on which all the Usenet servers are linked between each other. All the servers share files equally as they are posted. Sometimes it happens that your main Usenet provider is missing some parts of your download, maybe due to a technical problem (Hardware failure) or propagation (mirroring between providers) or retention age or a DMCA request. DMCA requests is the main reason (DMCA requests have increased significantly)

However certain files can be available at one provider while are not on another. Why? x1

x2

Articles don't get DMCAed from every US backbone in 24 hours. Different providers will comply with DMCA takedowns faster then others. ALL US Usenet providers respond to DMCA takedown requests, some are slower then others on certain files. it depends.

Because European Usenet providers are outside the DMCA “takedown” regime that exists in the US. This sometimes means that different content (including new releases) is available or available longer to download from European Usenet providers (DMCA'd content today is typically removed in less than 48 hours time. For NOTD it can take much longer - up to 5 days - to remove files).

x3

Best US based hybrid Tier 1 Usenet service provider

Usenet.Farm

Hybrid Usenet access

Tier-1 provider (own local retention) and resells from their partner backup feeds.

Usenet.Farm is a new kind of Usenet provider. We call it a Hybrid Usenet provider since Usenet.Farm is both a Tier-1 provider (has its own network and retention) and resells from one other Usenet provider.

What is the hybrid formula from Usenet.Farm? What are the technical specifications? The advantages of this kind of hybrid Usenet access?

  1. Usenet.Farm has its own network based in Holland. Its retention is slightly more than 30 days. In this category Usenet.Farm is a Tier-1 Provider. But Usenet.Farm is also a reseller for one other Usenet access provider that brings its retention to a total of 1100 days. Until now Usenet.Farm has not revealed the name of this reseller, due to confidentiality agreement they cannot give the name of this Tier-1 provider.

  2. It works very simply and clearly for the user: when a user wants to download a file, they first search for it and download it from Usenet.Farm servers. The servers that belong to Usenet.Farm are always used as a first priority. If the file doesn't exist on their retention then Usenet.Farm will find it on their reseller. We know that 75% of traffic goes through Usenet.Farm's own servers.

  3. They have lots of things to recommend them:
      1. With one price you get two Usenet network with a transparent operating system. And the prices aren't that high either, and both packages can be shared (15GB bloc for only €15 – unlimited access for €7.95/month).
      2. Usenet Farm offers Hybrid Usenet Access to help improve your download completion rate and your Usenet experience. Usenet.Farm can grab a file from two different networks. Usenet is a very decentralised network!

Usenet.farm is also a good Usenet provider that respects its users' confidentiality:

  1. Usenet.Farm is based in Holland so they are subject to NTD (Usenet.Farm manually does the takedown). There isn't an automatic takedown process: takedown happens within 5 days (Depending on the complexity of the report and the reported content the analysis may take up to five business days)

  2. It is possible (and you are encouraged) to pay in Bitcoin.

  3. No personal info needed on signup.

  4. Very clear Logs policy: No LOGS, no monitoring of your activities, no filter on what is posted. Usenet net neutrality is respected.

Today Usenet users need two things: high completion and respect for confidentiality. Usenet.Farm meets expectations for both. Their success as a Usenet provider can prove it! It's up to you to test it out with 10GB for free (usage is not limited in this period!)

What is a block account?

A block account is when you buy a predefined number of GB. After that, you are free to use them as you like, there is no time limit to use them up. No automatic top-up – once the GB have all been downloaded, the package is finished.

What are the advantages of a block account?

  1. You only pay what you use, and block accounts can be shared between several people = a good way to discover Newsgroups for a low price!

  2. Block accounts can help you fill missing files from your main server. That way you are not paying full price for two unlimited accounts.

This last factor drives the renewed interest in Usenet providers that offer block accounts. People that are worried about completion of certain files need to know about the advantage of using block accounts to help fill in incomplete items when downloading from Usenet. People use block accounts to try to get articles that fail to download from the main account because certain files can be available at one provider while are not on another. There is only one rule to respect: don't use a provider that has the same backbone as NewsgroupDirect. Since all the Usenet servers from one backbone have the same files, articles, parts
