Usenet Network

Usenet is a decentralized network, it works by each Usenet server sharing its information with all the other servers on the network. This propagation across servers makes Usenet an ideal place for storing information and data of all types. If a server is damaged (Message-IDs missing), the article can still exists on every other server in the network.

Best Usenet Provider Combo

These days completion is the most important factor for Usenet users. Retention is no longer an essential technical characteristic. Today many people find it necessary to have a backup block account to supplement their US based unlimited account in order to improve completion. So on this page we have listed The Best Usenet Provider Combo

Having multiple providers (or one main provider and one block account backup) increases the chances of you being able to find all the files you need. It may be missing on one provider but still there on another provider, particularly if your block account is a Dutch block. Backup is always a good idea. And blocks don't expire, so if they're hardly needed, then they'll last a super long time so the cost over time is minimal. They should work well together if they are on different backbones: Usenet Services Map. in simple terms, having some block accounts on different usenet providers (suppliers) who are not on the same "usenet network".

If most of what you pick up is automated (see Usenet Trinity), your unlimited should have you covered for 95% of what you want. Generally, the block account is used for backfills of missing data - Some people do more than one block. Just make sure your service provider and block aren't on the same backbone.

No single Usenet provider is good. You need at least 2 on different backbones (only one has to be unlimited, the rest can be block accounts which don't expire, to fill in the holes). Every provider has DMCA - NTD of content, and the ONLY way around that is multiple providers.

Unlimited Usenet (Primary) with Suggested Block Providers

Primary Usenet Provider - Unlimited account Best Block Provider Others Suggested Block Providers

NewsHosting - $9.99 Unlimited (UNS Holdings backbone)

Newshosting yearly plan ($99) includes a free VPN, so that appears to be a great deal if you're happy with their performance, ie completion rates, file retention, VPN quality.

These days a Newsreader is absolutely essential to explore the unlimited world of Usenet.

I' m a big fan of Newshosting's desktop client and generally had a good experience with them. Newshosting client contains two very cool features:

  1. Members have the ability to set up automatic searches. No more missing content or waiting too long because you didn’t get around to it in time. The new automatic search feature will check for your desired content hourly and download it once available
  2. Newshosting offers backup NNTP. You can add backup NNTP server if needed, a secondary Usenet provider that pulls from different servers when the articles aren't available on your primary. You can only use Tweaknews as backup provider. I got a block account of 100GB.

I recommend Tweaknews (Tweaknews backbone)

Tweaknews is a particularly good choice since:

You can add Tweaknews to Newshosting client.

Tweaknews is a Dutch Usenet provider - EU NNTP servers only.

Tweaknews offers a number of block accounts ranging from 10 GB up to 500 GB in size.

Tweaknews provides 2500 days binary retention.

I've tried Tweaknews block accounts and it's working perfectly so far with Newshosting unlimited account.

I have had always good completion rates with a Tweaknews backup, but have several other fill servers just in case:

UsenetExpress (Usenetexpress + XSNews + ? backbones) - I like their 500GB block account for $20 - (decent price and frequent deals)

Usenet.Farm  (UsenetFarm + XSNews backbones) - 15 € / 500GB - Their prices are obviously really good. They offer a 10 GB trial to try their platform out. The 10GB trial doesn't have an expiration date.

UsenetFarm and UsenetExpress are both Hybrid Tier-1 providers. This means they have their own local retention but it's usually kind of small (Both are under 100 days locally) and they offer higher retention through a partner, in the same way a Usenet reseller would. Both UsenetExpress and UsenetFarm use XSNews for their backbone (UsenetExpress uses maybe a third backbone).

The main differences between UsenetFarm , and UsenetExpress will be price and server location. You might get faster download speeds from a news server that is geographically closer to you

Eweka - 7.50 € Unlimited 300 Mbit (Eweka backbone)

Eweka is our top choice for those seeking a Usenet service in Europe:

Retention on Eweka is truly great - (the only Dutch option with retention in line with Newshosting - 3370 Days retention!. This is very handy when finding older stuff from various forums or Usenet indexers (see Usenet Indexing services).

Completion rates is excellent.

NewsgroupDirect (UNS Holdings backbone)

Would Newsgroup block account be a good choice to use as a back up to Eweka

To fill missing content I would suggest Newsgroupdirect:

NewsgroupDirect offers a wide selection of block newsgroup accounts ranging from 50 GB all the way up to 2000 GB.

Newsgroupdirect offers inexpensive block accounts. For example, you can get 500 GB for $15

All of Usenet blocks include: no expiration date and the ability to share with friends.

Tweaknews (Tweaknews backbone) - 13 € / 100GB

UsenetExpress (Usenetexpress + XSNews + ? backbones) - $20 / 500GB

Usenet.Farm  (Usenetfarm + XSNews backbones) - 15 € / 500GB

Astraweb (Astraweb backbone) - $25 / 180GB

Cheapnews (Cheapnews backbone) - 14.95 € / 100GB

Tweaknews - 7.50 € Unlimited (Tweaknews backbone)

Tweaknews is one of our most popular Usenet providers for many good reasons:

Price - 7,50 €/Month for NGProvider.Com visitors

Tweaknews comes with Newsreader (UsenetWire) and a free VPN account

Speed is another quality for the service. At my current place I am on a 1 Gbit/s connection and achieve download speeds of 40 MB/sec regularly with Tweaknews.

NewsgroupDirect (UNS Holdings backbone)

NewsgroupDirect offers more retention than Tweaknews.

We are particularly fond of the NewsgroupDirect Terabyte Tuesday: 1 TB (1000 GB) blocks for just $40

It's cheap and I'm used to it and would probably recommend it anyway.

UsenetExpress (Usenetexpress + XSNews + ? backbones) - $20 / 500GB

Usenet.Farm  (Usenetfarm + XSNews backbones) - 15 € / 500GB

Astraweb (Astraweb backbone) - $25 / 180GB

Cheapnews (Cheapnews backbone) - 14.95 € / 100GB

ExtremeUsenet - 4 € / 4 Mbit (BaseIP backbone)

I especially like this Dutch Usenet Service provider for their low price. Retention is less than the US average. But when I want a file older than 1200 days I can find it with a Newsgroupdirect block account.

NewsgroupDirect (UNS Holdings backbone)

NewsgroupDirect offers more retention than ExtremeUsenet. I'm using a Newsgroupdirect block for longer retention and to fill in completeness

Tweaknews (Tweaknews backbone) - 13 € / 100GB

UsenetExpress (Usenetexpress + XSNews + ? backbones) - $20 / 500GB

Usenet.Farm  (Usenetfarm + XSNews backbones) - 15 € / 500GB

Astraweb (Astraweb backbone) - $25 / 180GB

Cheapnews (Cheapnews backbone) - 14.95 € / 100GB

UsenetExpress - $10 Unlimited (UsenetExpress backbone)

UsenetExpress provides Unlimited Usenet (and VPN access) for $10 a month. This service is a hybrid tier 1 service, they are their own backbone for low retention (90 days), but they partner with XSNews for higher retention (1100+ day retention).

Tweaknews (Tweaknews backbone) - 13 € / 100GB

This combo gets you access to 3 different backend providers (UsenetExpress + Tweaknews + XSNews)

NewsgroupDirect (UNS Holdings backbone) - $14 / 100GB

Usenet.Farm  (Usenetfarm + XSNews backbones) - 15 € / 500GB

Astraweb (Astraweb backbone) - $25 / 180GB

Cheapnews (Cheapnews backbone) - 14.95 € / 100GB

Usenet.Farm - 7.95 € Unlimited (Usenet.Farm backbone)

Usenet.Farm is a Dutch hybrid Usenet service provider based in the Netherlands.

Usenet.Farm owns its small cluster that can contain approx 30 days of data in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Usenet.farm uses backup providers XSNews after their own retention to 1000+ days of retention.

NewsgroupDirect (UNS Holdings backbone)

NewsgroupDirect offers more retention than Usenet.Farm. I'm using a Newsgroupdirect block for longer retention and to fill in completeness

This combo gets you access to 3 different backend providers (Usenet.Farm + UNS Holdings + XSNews)

Tweaknews (Tweaknews backbone) - 13 € / 100GB

UsenetExpress (Usenetexpress + XSNews + ? backbones) - $20 / 500GB

Astraweb (Astraweb backbone) - $25 / 180GB

Cheapnews (Cheapnews backbone) - 14.95 € / 100GB

XSNews - 10.95 € Unlimited (XSNews backbone)

You want to make a combo Usenet to reduce the number of incomplete files, so an unlimited plan with XSNews can be the primary server.

For Block Accounts you have the following who offer the best deals: Newsgroupdirect - Tweaknews

NewsgroupDirect (UNS Holdings backbone) - $14 / 100GB. Newsgroupdirect has block accounts at very competitive prices

Tweaknews (Tweaknews backbone) - 13 € / 100GB. Tweaknews also has blocks accounts. Advantages: Server based in Holland with a 10GB trial offer.

UsenetExpress (Usenetexpress + XSNews + ? backbones) - $20 / 500GB

UseneExpress is a hybrid provider. UsenetExpress is a Tier 1 provider for the first 90 days which actually helps greatly with new releases, after that it is mainly a XS News reseller. They also pull articles from another backend provider (The source of this second backup is not known as the articles were being served from archival/cache servers).

You can use both XSNews and UsenetExpress together without any problems. Why?

- It'll better to download files with unlimited access and not a block account.
- UsenetExpress gives you access to its own recent retention (90 days). For example, if a file 70 days old is missing on XSNews network, you could try to download it using UsenetExpress
- They also pull articles from one another backup feed

Usenet.Farm  (Usenetfarm + XSNews backbones) - 15 € / 500GB

Usenet.Farm is a hybrid provider. Usenet.Farm has recent stuff locally (30 days) and older stuff in a contract with XSNews.

You can use both XSNews and Usenet.farm together without any problems. Why?

- It'll better to download files with unlimited access and not a block account.
- Usenet.Farm gives you access to its own recent retention (30 days). For example, if a file 20 days old is missing on XSNews network, you could try to download it using Usenet.Farm

Astraweb (Astraweb backbone) - $25 / 180GB

Cheapnews (Cheapnews backbone) - 14.95 € / 100GB

Astraweb - $8 Unlimited (Astraweb backbone)

This unlimited US access is the cheapest monthly rate. Only $8/month!

Tweaknews (Tweaknews backbone) - 13 € / 100GB

NewsgroupDirect (UNS Holdings backbone) - $14 / 100GB

UsenetExpress (Usenetexpress + XSNews + ? backbones) - $20 / 500GB

Usenet.Farm  (Usenetfarm + XSNews backbones) - 15 € / 500GB

Cheapnews (Cheapnews backbone) - 14.95 € / 100GB
