Usenet Network

Usenet is a decentralized network, it works by each Usenet server sharing its information with all the other servers on the network. This propagation across servers makes Usenet an ideal place for storing information and data of all types. If a server is damaged (Message-IDs missing), the article can still exists on every other server in the network.

Newshosting VPN Review

Newshosting is our favorite Usenet service. Newshosting offers a VPN client for free when you signup for the yearly USENET plan.

Having access to both Newshosting Usenet and VPN services provides highly secured transfers, allowing users to truly enjoy all that Usenet has to offer.

The Newshosting VPN service offers 70+ servers in 22 countries with anonymous IP addresses and delivers the following benefits:

  • Unmetered VPN Bandwidth

  • Unlimited Server Switching

  • Two Simultaneous VPN Connections, which gives you the possibility of securing your data on your computer or mobile device.

  • OpenVPN, L2TP, and PPTP Protocols

  • The level of encryption used is 256-bit, which provides a high level of protection.

  • Free software

  • Newshosting VPN doesn’t record, monitor or store logs of your VPN activity.

Newshosting’s VPN isn’t a full-featured VPN like IPVanish, but it does give you all the basic protection you need to browse the web privately and download torrents anonymously.

Newshosting VPN Software

There is free software for Windows and Mac users. The app uses the OpenVPN protocol, but L2TP and PPTP connections are also available. Only few configuration options but there's nothing at all wrong with its performance. What’s really lacking is kill switch but VUZE has an IP Bind option integrated into it.

Performance was very good on the servers I connected to which included locations in The UK and The Netherlands. We managed download speeds of around 130 Mbps from our nearest UK server, 125 Mbps when connecting to Amsterdam

Of course bandwidth, server switching, and data transfers are all unlimited.

VPN Service to Secure Usenet Downloads

It is a real advantage to have a VPN since it allows users to have Usenet as a primary source for files, but to make use of Torrent network if necessary. But Torrent network is not at all confidential which is why Newshosting offers a VPN to let you secure and anonymise your torrents.

Why Usenet is better than Torrenting?

- Usenet will always utilise the maximum available bandwidth connection. On Usenet, there’s no uploading or seeding needed. You can download files at the top speed that your ISP will allow. I'm downloading at 78 MB/s via my Fiber connection (Hyperoptic).

- No upload required/seed for "x" days. There’s no peer-to-peer rule on Usenet like there is on torrenting platforms. On Usenet you have no obligation to upload anything or seed any files for other users to download either.

- It’s much safer and private to download files from Usenet than it is to download files from torrent websites.

- Automation seems to be a bit easier with Usenet in my experience.

- A VPN is absolutely necessary for torrenting. In general, never leech/seed torrent files without being connected to VPN

Usenet beats torrenting in almost every way but in rare cases the file can't be found on the Usenet network. Luckily Newshosting VPN can be used for torrenting (Safest countries to download torrents: Sweden, Holland, Luxembourg, Brazil, Canada). NewsHosting VPN has lots of servers in Netherlands (98 servers). With VUZE, Newshosting VPN is perfect for downloading torrents. Vuze includes a protection in case the VPN stops functioning.

Configuring Your VPN For Vuze - Force to use VPN interface

Vuze is one of the most popular BitTorrent client along with with uTorrent. But If you need to protect your ISP IP during usage of a torrenting client we strongly recommend VUZE which has an IP Bind option integrated into it. This option has two advantages:

1- You don’t need to check if Vuze is using your VPN IP

2- The client only works if the VPN IP is active. This is what we call IP binding. This is especially useful if your VPN does not already have an IP Guard.

Programmes that offer the option "connect through VPN only" are few and far between. But they have the great advantage of protecting your ISP IP by disconnecting from the internet if and when the VPN disconnects. This useful feature makes sure that Vuze runs and connects to the internet only when you’re connected to the VPN so you’re always secured.

Here is our tutorial for how to configure Vuze with your Newshosting VPN. Although this tutorial references Newshosting VPN in particular, it should work for any VPN provider

You can manually configure the service : you just need to choose the Advanced mode in Options.

Then select Advanced Network Configuration under the Connection tab.

Configuration is easy

1- In the box Link to the local IP address or on the interface enter the number of the network interface. In this case it is the network interface eth12 (TAP-Win32 Adaptater V9) that matches the OpenVPN connection. For PPTP it is WAN Miniport (PPTP) and for L2TP it is WAN Miniport (L2TP).

2- You must tick the option: Enforce IP bindings even when interfaces are not available ….

The result is simple. In your programme Routing (at the bottom) will change to green.

If the VPN disconnects the programme’s connection also stops.

We highly recommend this feature. This protects your true IP address from leaking out on Vuze
