Usenet MultiFeeds: Completion via Message-IDs

Technical explanation of Usenet MultiFeeds: It is possible to get a complete file from a segment located on several USPs. How is this technological prowess happen?

Usenet is a decentralised network made of a few back-end providers. All the files posted on these back end providers are instantly and identically duplicated on the other providers. All the back end providers are synchronised amongst themselves following rules for feeds and peering.

Files posted on Usenet are cut in into pieces and posted segment by segment (When a file is uploaded into Usenet, it is split into tiny bits of data). Each segment is a Message-ID. All the Message-IDs together make up a file.

As long as all the USPs from the Usenet network share the same Message-IDs it is therefore possible to get a file from several USPs, this is the completion method via Message-IDs. So it would be possible to download 15 Message-IDs from provider A, 15 others from provider B and the last 10 from provider C. Each individual provider may not have the whole file, but by combining different USPs, it is possible to reconstitute the file part by part.

Usenet is therefore a network that is technically very surprising since you can get a whole file by downloading Message-IDs make it up from several different USPs. The only condition is not to use to USPs that belong to the same backbone. All the USPs that complete your Usenet MultiFeed should be from different networks.

The other positive point is that one USP can have different Message-IDs on each of their servers. For example Newshosting has different Message-IDs on its US, NL and DE servers! Individually each server doesn't have enough Message-IDs to make a whole file but by using three servers you can get to more than 70%.

Why are there such different rates of completion of Message-IDs with one USP? It's a mystery! (Maybe takedown jurisdiction depends on the country servers are located in and not the company's jurisdiction.) During my tests I always noticed that a USP that has more than one server has different Message-IDs on each one. This is why we recommend a primary USP that has three locations for its servers: US – NL – DE. You can actually see a fair amount of success if you use multiple servers.

Watch out: you need to understand the architecture of the Usenet network to optimise completion via Message-IDs. The jurisdiction of the USP is not as relevant as in the last 3 years. Now it is more important to understand the composition of a file divided into Message-IDs and the interdependence of the USPs.

Here are two Usenet plans for your Usenet multi-feeds for a completion of Message-IDs at 100%.

Usenet MultiFeed with unlimited plans for both primary and secondary usage
Usenet MultiFeed with one unlimited rate and Block accounts
Primary server:

NEWSHOSTING - this USP is the best one for Message-ID completion since Newshosting has three server locations: US (news.iad.newshosting.com) – NL (news.ams.newshosting.com) – DE (news.fr7.newshosting.com). During our tests Message-ID completion was always high from these three servers.

And the annual plan integrates a VPN for downloading torrents if necessary.

Secondary servers:

EWEKA - This USP is based in Holland and and lets you easily complete missing Message IDs. Eweka allows sharing between several users! So you can split the cost of a subscription.

This Newshosting + Eweka plan is the best unlimited Usenet combination, as it lets you get the Message-IDs from four different locations. Everything is unlimited.

There are other USPs as an option if any problems arise with the previous two:

ExtremeUsenet - unlimited rate with a server based in Holland (Base IP network). ExtremeUsenet allows sharing with several users and discount rates are available at €22.50 / year. (Not including special offers!). An ExtremeUsenet plan bought with a special offer, and shared between users could cost as little as €1 / month.

UsenetBucket - unlimited rate with Holland-based server (XSNews network) – it is possible to test UsenetBucket and to get a few missing Message-IDs, to evaluate the network.

Why use ExtremeUsenet and UsenetBucket as optional servers? There are many other USPs that have unlimited rates but those two are from different networks than Newshosting and Eweka. And their prices are low since ExtremeUsenet and UsenetBucket have promotions up to 30% off.

The idea is simple: get an unlimited Usenet plan and add one or more block accounts to complete any missing Message-IDs

Primary server:

NEWSHOSTING - Newshosting is the best USP for a Usenet MultiFeed since they have three server locations (US (news.iad.newshosting.com) – NL (news.ams.newshosting.com) – DE (news.fr7.newshosting.com)) that do not all have the same Message-IDs. So you can easily get to two-thirds completion of the files. You can use the block accounts to complete the rest.

or

EWEKA - Eweka is based in Holland. Their completion of Message-IDs is very good despite only having one server in Holland.

Why choose Newshosting or Eweka as a primary server? There are many unlimited Usenet plans but these have the most advantages:

As well as three locations for their servers, Newshosting is the only USP to offer a Newsreader with automatic search and a VPN with its annual rate. The automatic search function takes charge of downloading for me. In case of incomplete files, even with Message-ID completion, I can torrent the file using the VPN to make my downloads anonymous.

Eweka is based in Holland and is the only Dutch USP to offer a third party VPN like IPVanish. IPVanish is the best VPN for torrenting (via VPN or SOCKS5) which I use for torrenting, PopCornTime or Kodi.

Secondary servers: one or more block accounts

Newsgroupdirect has block accounts at very competitive prices, considering that they have three server locations: NL (nl.newsgroupdirect.com) – DE (de.newsgroupdirect.com) – US (us.newsgroupdirect.com).
Compatible with Eweka - ExtremeUsenet - UsenetBucket - XSNews unlimited - Usenet.Farm unlimited - Tweaknews unlimited - Astraweb unlimited

Usenet.Farm. This USP has two advantages: offering a cheap block account (only €15 for 500GB) and three different backbones: The Usenet.farm network with 30 days retention, the XSNews network and another T1 USP.
Compatible with Eweka and Newshosting. You can use both Newshosting and Usenet.farm together without any problems. Why? Newshosting gives you access to Message-IDs of servers based in Germany and in the USA. As for Message-IDs based in Holland it'll better to download them with unlimited access and not a block account. What's more Newshosting has a retention of more than 3000 days!

XSNews network: Three USPs offer block accounts on this network. XSNews is the Tier 1 of the network. Yabnews and EasyUsenet are sister companies. Pick block account with the best price during their special offers.
Compatible with Newshosting - Eweka - ExtremeUsenet - UsenetBucket - Tweaknews unlimited - Astraweb unlimited

Tweaknews: Tweaknews also has blocks accounts. Advantages: Server based in Holland with a 10GB trial offer.
Compatible with Newshosting - Eweka - ExtremeUsenet - UsenetBucket - XSNews unlimited - Usenet.Farm unlimited - Astraweb unlimited

NB: use all the addresses of each USP in your Newsreader. Sabnzbd or NZBGet support Usenet MultiFeeds. I much prefer Sabnzbd, finding it more ergonomic, even if NZBGet is better at notifications for remaining Message-IDs.
