Usenet Network

Usenet is a decentralized network, it works by each Usenet server sharing its information with all the other servers on the network. This propagation across servers makes Usenet an ideal place for storing information and data of all types. If a server is damaged (Message-IDs missing), the article can still exists on every other server in the network.

- Current Usenet Map
- Back-end Usenet Provider and Usenet Resellers
- Usenet News Server Addresses
- Usenet Ultimate package
- Usenet Combo
- Completion via Message-IDs
- Hybrid Usenet providers

The Ultimate Package is our comprehensive guide to the best rates for Tier 1 providers and their resellers, so that you can reduce the risks of incomplete or missing files (though a perfect 100% completion is impossible). Different providers remove different parts of the download so using multiple providers increases the chances of the download completing.

100 % completion is impossible because:

  • There can be Peering problems between Tier-1 Providers. Articles posted via a server are not propagated out to the rest of Usenet complete. However, these articles are complete on the server where they were posted.

  • A USP has an automated DMCA takedown process and so the file does not have long enough to be shared. This is a rare occurrence. In this case the Headers appear but not the files.

  • A file is posted on a newsgroup that doesn't exist on your USP. Before anybody panics, less groups doesn't necessarily mean less content because almost all content is only posted to a few groups, and the vast majority of groups are discussion-only.

We have created several options to reduce the possibility of incomplete files as much as possible.

My own Backup Usenet Account Workaround - My Best combination for maximum availability

Usenet package low budget - for each backbone we have indicated the best USP, the best possible prices, the blocks available, Shared usenet accounts available and any trial offers. The idea of this combined package is to offer you the best Usenet service from each Tier 1 Provider (Usenet Providers Map) which create the network structure. Tier 1 providers take priority since the servers have a much better quality

Don’t forget – no combination will work absolutely perfectly! Some will be suitable for Usenet users over a certain period – some will not work if they regularly use a certain group. In any case, we always advise using an American USP (Usenet server reviews) as a primary server since they tend to have a higher retention, Header retention (to search for content manually within groups: How to find Usenet content) faster support, and general stability (no disappearing payment methods, no loss of capacity at peak times)

I use Usenet intensely and know it by heart: rates, prices, servers, indexers… I am happy share all of my knowledge with you on NGProvider.

I use the following package: I started with my ISP that has a binary access via a Tier-1 provider. So I save on one server. Then above all I use Newshosting (unlimited annual rate at $99) and its Newsreader and automatic search function that allows me to programme my regular downloads. Newshosting is my primary server. Finally three other deals are reserved for any incomplete files: Eweka, ExtremeUsenet, UsenetBucket.

How did I formulate this combination? What are my download configurations?

Using a large number of USPs at random is inefficient (stacking blocks from the same backbone doesn’t make sense). You need a primary, unlimited USP then diversify the secondary ones depending on your downloads. Complete everything with a download configuration: NZB + automatic downloads + Indexing

Your primary USP serves to: Download with a classic newsreader like Sabnzbd, Grabit or Download with PVR for Usenet like Couchpotato or Sonarr.

My basic server is NewsHosting for $9.99/month or $99.99/year ($8.33 / month) with this features: 2600 days retention, SSL, 30 connections, Free Usenet browser and VPN. NewsHosting is the basis for our Ultimate Package.

Newshosting has the advantage of offering a Newsreader which lets me:

With Newshosting + automatic download function + some indexers I have nearly everything I need!

In case of any incomplete files: I use some secondary servers. I tested them first in free trial offers, on cheaper rates (monthly) or from a block account. According to usage or necessity, I upgraded to more economic options (unlimited, large block accounts) taking advantage of special offers!

If there are incompletes, I have the complementary servers take over. My emergency, secondary servers are:

  • A Eweka rate shared among 4 people: only €2/month!

  • I got an annual 12/7 access account with ExtremeUsenet on special offer at €18/year! (20% discount) that I also share.

  • Also on promotion, a 20% off rate with Usenetbucket. Still only €25.50/year!

So I have 3 unlimited packages to use as supplementary accounts that only cost an extra €5/month all included, as well as the access included by my ISP (that I use rarely).

These “back-up” or secondary packages are configured with Sabnzbd (linked to Sonnar or couchpotato). This is my ultimate package to vanquish incomplete files!

Do I use any Usenet packages?

The rest is made of a block account I have had for years (Astraweb), free access from the server test.xennanews.com and any other servers I am testing (at the moment I have accounts with Usenet.Farm). I regularly try different offers from backbones or subscriptions that are less well-known to test if a file absent file on my five principal backbones can be completed elsewhere. But it is rare a file can be found it is absent from all five!

Usenet Package low budget

How do you make your low budget package? As long as you follow our advice, the final price will not be very high:

  • Consider using the Usenet access from your ISP if they still outsource a binary feed. This can be a good way to have a primary server or free extras.

  • The subscription length is key. Subscribing annually can save you a lot (Annual subscriptions that cost less than 12 consecutive months). Same for block accounts: large block = low price overall.

  • Think about sharing your Usenet access as long as it is allowed by your USP. Do not just share your account randomly, but only with USPs that allow Usenet account sharing: The only limit is the number of connections. If your package includes 8 connections, then two users will only have 4 each. Connections are divided by the number of simultaneous users!

  • Use free Usenet access or free Usenet trial offers. These allow you to try out a new backbone and its completion. Could be used in exceptional cases to boost your package for free.

  • Sign up to or renew a Usenet account during a period of special offers. NGProvider publishes all its Usenet promotions on its main page, its twitter account and its feed. The best reductions are always around Black Friday / Cyber Monday.

  • Use Block accounts that let you fill in the gaps at cheap rates. Not all backbones have block accounts.

  • Think about using special rates for certain times of day: “night-time accounts” are cheaper.

Usenet Backbones Low budget provider recommendations
UNS Holdings backbone

Corporate offices are based in USA

There are many different offers from USPs that use UNS Holdings as a backbone. We have picked the best ones for you.

Free Usenet access: XSUsenet is mainly known for its free Usenet access which is very popular. You get free access to UNS Holdings. But the speed is limited as is retention.

The best USP from the UNS Holdings backbone: Newshosting is a good choice if you want a reliable Usenet service. Newshosting provides its own Usenet newsreader software. Newshosting is offering NH Unlimited Usenet access for $9.99 a month for life. And Newshosting has perhaps the best Free Usenet Trial Accounts: They allow 30 GB download limit on their trial accounts

Newshosting backbone: Newshosting owns and operates its own multi-gigabit server farms throughout the U.S. and Europe (Netherlands). This guarantees you the FASTEST Usenet access available from ANY Usenet server

Block Account: there are lots of USPs from the UNS Holdings that have block accounts available. Blocks from Newsgroupdirect are regularly on special offer (TeraByte TuesdayDeal of the Week - Happy Hour deal) and have the best quality/price relationship from UNS Holdings, as well allowing account sharing!!!: For example you can get 2TB blocks for just $70!

Newsgroupdirect servers: NewsgroupDirect has 3 different server farms - In both the US and Europe (Amsterdam & Frankfurt)

The USP Eweka is a rising star. The only Dutch USP to offer more than 2600 days retention! Only Eweka rate can rival the retention of American providers. We like the NZB checker in the user account that tests files for their presence on Eweka.

Eweka backbone: Eweka manage their own backbone. Servers are in the Netherlands

Usenet Account Shareable: Eweka allows shared accounts (Account sharing allowed) but only on their Standard account (Speeds up to 50 Mbit/s - 8 connections per account)
